In the Fall of 2007 a group of watercolor enthusiasts, many of whom had been painting and taking classes and workshops together for a long time, decided to get together and present an exhibition of their paintings. In the process of preparing for this show the idea of forming an organization for watercolor enthusiasts emerged, and the Butte County Watercolor Society was born.
The Inaugural Exhibition was held in October of 2007, and the second Members Show followed in 2008. In December of 2009 the BCWS presented a juried watermedia exhibition opened to all artists working with watermedia on paper. The second national juried watermedia exhibition will take place in October of 2010. A variety of works have been shown including watercolor, tempera, acrylics and gouache.
Future plans include more exhibitions, member shows, juried shows, participation in local art events, and educational activities for members such as workshops, discussion groups, and critique sessions.
The group hopes to establish a welcoming community for all those who appreciate water media painting whether they are artists, collectors, or appreciative viewers.
The Butte County Watercolor Society seeks to create, foster, and sustain interest in the art of water media painting.
Our goals are to sponsor exhibitions and educational programs; to increase the skills of our members; and to establish a welcoming community for all who love watercolor as artists, collectors, or viewers.
